Southampton boss Nigel Adkins believes that his side's 1-1 draw with Arsenal shows the progress that they have made this season.

Southampton boss Nigel Adkins has declared himself pleased at his side's 1-1 draw with Arsenal this afternoon.

The Saints took the lead over the Gunners through Gaston Ramirez's strike, only for Guly do Prado to turn the ball into his own net to clinch a point for Arsenal.

However, Adkins believes that the result shows great progress from his side after being beaten 6-1 in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

"The lads yet again put a very good performance in and it just shows how far we've come," he said.

"At the start if the season we got a good spanking down at their place and today, I thought defensively we looked very solid. Tactically we were good and all round some really good performances.

"A good goal - I haven't seen the one that was disallowed, I don't know whether it was for offside or for pushing - but all round a good performance from the players yet again."

The result lifted Southampton out of the relegation zone and up to 17th in the Premier League table.
