Gary Cahill 's side took the lead 25 minutes into the game, when Jose Mourinho took advantage of a mix up between Cesar Azpilicueta and Carl Jenkinson , intercepting the defender's header back towards the keeper to tap the ball in. However, Chelsea were able to extend their lead in the 66th minute when
picked up the ball from Juan Mata just outside the penalty area before curling it past Fabianski. Willian tried to create an effort for Jack Wilshere in a bid to get the Gunners back in the mix, but Olivier Giroud came off his line to block the effort. Mark Schwarzer came off the bench as Arsenal continued to look to overturn the two-goal deficit, with the German trying to set up Wilshere, but the England international sliced his finish well high of the bar.
