National League roundup: Forest Green Rovers beat Southport, continue winning run

Forest Green Rovers continue their perfect start to the season, recording a 2-1 win over Southport, while Guiseley and Woking play out a 4-4 draw at Nethermoor Park.

Forest Green Rovers have made it nine wins from nine in the National League with a 2-1 victory over Southport, while Guiseley and Woking played out a thrilling 4-4 draw.

The Green took just ten minutes to find a goal against Southport, an accurate Aaron O'Connor finish making it 1-0.

Keanu Marsh-Brown hit the net for the league leaders soon after as they took a 2-0 lead into half time.

Andrew Wright pulled one back for Southport, but it wasn't enough for the visitors as Forest Green maintained their 100% record.

Woking top scorer John Goddard made it five for the season with a 30-yard free kick against Guiseley, before adding a second minutes later.

Guiseley hit back through Rob Atkinson and Nicky Boshell, before Brian Saah made it 3-2 to Woking immediately before half time.

Tom Craddock again levelled the scoreline, only to see Dan Holman make it 4-3 to the visitors.

Jake Lawlor popped up with a late, late equaliser, capitalising on a defensive error to level the scores 4-4 at Nethermoor Park just before the final whistle.

An early Nicky Deverdics penalty gave Dover Athletic the lead away to Cheltenham Town.

Stefan Payne made it 2-0 to Dover after 31 minutes, before Billy Waters' first competitive strike for Cheltenham handed his team a lifeline.

A second-half penalty from Danny Wright saw the Robins fight back to 2-2.

Payne was sent off for a second bookable offence after 77 minutes, and Billy Waters was on hand six minutes before time to rattle the net as Cheltenham completed their comeback.

Omar Bogle's sixth goal of the season for Grimsby Town made it 1-1 at at Blundell Park after Charlie Walker had given Aldershot a 1-0 lead going into half time.

Irishman Padraig Amond swept home after 58 minutes to see Grimsby take a 2-1 lead, Bogle seeing a second penalty saved minutes later.

The striker was on hand to put the Mariners two goals ahead after 81 minutes, before Nathan Arnold wrapped up the points in a 4-1 victory.

Matt Whichelow's first-half effort saw Boreham Wood take a 1-0 lead into half-time against Lincoln City.

Lincoln's Matt Rhead made it seven goals for the season after 64 minutes, firing home from the spot to make it 1-1 against Boreham Wood.

Rhead, now the league's top scorer, struck again two minutes from time to give the Imps the lead, with Alex Simmons firing home moments later to hand Lincoln a 3-1 win.

A Scott Leather own-goal put Wrexham 1-0 ahead against Altrincham, Blaine Hudson adding a second just before the half-time whistle.

Michael Rankine replied for Alty, but James Gray struck in the 56th minute to restore the Dragons' two-goal advantage which saw them run out 3-1 victors at the Racecourse Ground.

Liam Hogan's header put Tranmere Rovers in front in the early stages against Chester FC.

James Norwood made it 2-0 to Gary Brabin's side in the 36th minute, enough to see Rovers claim three points at Prenton Park.

Chester's John Rooney missed the chance to bring the Blues back into the game, shooting wide from the penalty spot after Sam Hughes' header was handled.

Danny Johnson was on target in the 20th minute to give Gateshead the lead over Eastleigh.

Jimmy Phillips also struck in the first half for Gateshead as they took a 2-0 lead into the half.

Joe Partington's deflected effort after 78 minutes was not enough for Eastleigh, who saw Ben Strevens red-carded for a incident in the tunnel at half time, as they succumbed to a home defeat.

Welling United, who haven't won since the first day of the season, took the advantage early on through Xavier Vidal.

Torquay replied through Dan Butler to make it 1-1, the Gulls going into half time with 10 men following a straight red card for Fabian Speiss.

However, Butler's strike was enough to hand Paul Cox's side a point at Park View Road as Welling were unable to capitalise on their numerical advantage.

Gurjit Singh's fourth of the season handed Tim Flowers' Kidderminster side the lead against Halifax Town.

On-loan Sheffield United midfielder CJ Hamilton gave Halifax a share of the spoils with an accurate finish into the bottom corner.
