Former AC Milan defender and Czech Republic international Marek Jankulovski has announced his retirement from football at the age of 34.

The left-back, who was playing for boyhood club Banik Ostrava, had spent 11 years in Italy with Milan, Napoli and Udinese.

However, a second knee ligament injury has forced Jankulovski to hang up his boots.

"It is difficult to think of a return after such two serious injuries," he said.

"Basically, when I injured it again I decided to end my football career. I just needed time to come to terms with it. Health and my family are more important.

"My career was successful at both club and international level. The end is bitter but I'm satisfied with what I have achieved."

Jankulovski won the Serie A title and the Champions League during his time with the Rossoneri.
