Adam Rooney: 'Aberdeen were naive against St Mirren'

Adam Rooney admits that Aberdeen were naive to throw away a two-goal lead during their 2-2 draw with St Mirren.

Aberdeen striker Adam Rooney has admitted that he and his teammates were naive to throw away a two-goal lead during Tuesday's draw with St Mirren.

The Dons had led at Pittodrie Stadium through Mark Reynolds and Peter Pawlett, but the visitors fought back to earn a share of the spoils in the Scottish Premiership encounter.

Following the match, Rooney conceded that Aberdeen should have looked to protect their advantage instead of going after more goals.

"Maybe we were a bit naive with the way we defended on Tuesday," he told the club's official website. "Because of how well we have been doing at home this season, we wanted to keep going forward.

"With the number of goals we have been scoring, we felt like we could have kicked on and scored more. It's something we will have to think about going forward. It's a bit of a wake-up call for us. You should never let a team back in when you are 2-0 up."

Aberdeen continue their league campaign on Saturday with a trip to Dundee.
