Kei Nishikori too strong for Tommy Robredo

Kei Nishikori moves closer to a place at the ATP World Tour Finals after beating Tommy Robredo in three sets in the last 32 of the Paris Masters.

Kei Nishikori has advanced through to the Paris Masters third round after fighting back to defeat Tommy Robredo in three sets.

The world number seven dropped the first set in the French capital before sealing the win by a 6-7 6-2 6-3 scoreline to move one victory away from sealing a place at the ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Nishikori squandered two break-point opportunities during a first set dominated on serve, and the US Open runner-up was made to pay as Robredo won the final four points of the tie-break to move ahead.

However, Robredo, who was involved in a titanic tussle with Andy Murray in Valencia on Sunday, appeared to be feeling the effects of his recent efforts and Nishikori easily took the second against the experienced Spaniard.

The deciding set followed a similar pattern to that of the second, and one break was enough for Nishikori to secure a place in the third round against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
