Great Britain's Peter Waterfield admits that "it wasn't meant to be" as he fails to reach the semi-finals of the 10m platform.

Great Britain's Peter Waterfield has admitted that "it wasn't meant to be" as he failed to reach the semi-finals of the 10m platform.

Waterfield's 23rd-placed finish saw him end up outside of the top 18 and not make the next round, which takes place on Saturday.

"It wasn't meant to be for the whole of the Olympics, it was a terrible performance," he told BBC Sport.

"I've been training well for a long time but it's about what you do in competition and that was just terrible."

Waterfield's Team GB teammate Tom Daley squeezed through to the semi-finals with his final dive of Friday's session.
