Tom Daley: 'I can only focus on myself at Glasgow Commonwealth Games'

Olympic diver Tom Daley tells Sports Mole that he is purely focused on himself as he bids to retain his title at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Double Commonwealth Games gold medallist Tom Daley will arrive in Glasgow next month with just one focus on his mind - to retain his title.

The 20-year-old will lead a 15-strong Team England diving group in Scotland following his Commonwealths glory in 2010.

The Plymouth-born sportsman, who soared into the media spotlight after clinching a bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games, secured gold in the 10m platform and platform synchro in Delhi four years ago.

While Daley heads into the challenge in good form after winning silver and scoring a personal best at the World Series in Mexico earlier this month, the sportsman is wary of Australian Matthew Mitcham.

The 26-year-old was crowned Olympic champion six years ago in the 10m platform event, and according to Daley, is on course to impress in Scotland.

"The Olympic champion from 2008 Matthew Mitcham [is] coming out of injury now and is looking very strong, from what I've heard through the grapevine and through the Australian athletes," Daley told Sports Mole. "I think the Australians, the Canadians and the Malaysians are going to be the tough competition."

Despite leading the way for Team England, Daley has insisted that he cannot afford to concern himself with other athletes as he aims to have a successful Games.

"For me, diving is such an individual sport, so I just worry about what I can do. I can't control what other people do, so I only focus on the things that I can control and just focus on competing against any diver that comes along."

The Games get underway in Glasgow with the opening ceremony on July 23.
