Tom Daley to retire from diving after Commonwealth Games?

A report claims that British diver Tom Daley is to retire from the sport after the Commonwealth Games.

Team England's Tom Daley is to retire from diving after the Commonwealth Games, a report has claimed.

The 20-year-old, who missed out on a medal at the recent World Cup, is said to be close to quitting the sport as he fears he will not win a medal at the 2016 Olympics.

The Daily Mail quotes a source as saying: "Sadly Tom has decided he'll retire after the Commonwealth Games to avoid Rio. He's pretty much got no chance of medalling at the Olympics. If he can retain gold at the Commonwealth Games then he'll [go] out on a high.

"His struggle with his back twist has been well documented and he knows the time will be right. He's had a great career in diving and has so many other opportunities."

However, a spokesman for the athlete denied the retirement claims, saying: "Tom's goal remains to compete at Rio 2016."

Daley will take part in the 10m platform event at the Commonwealth Games.
