Raymond van Barneveld edges Stephen Bunting in thriller at World Championship

Raymond van Barneveld defies 15 180s from Stephen Bunting to record a 4-3 win in the second round of the Word Championship.

Raymond van Barneveld has booked his place in the third round of the World Championship after emerging victorious by a 4-3 scoreline in a thrilling contest with Stephen Bunting.

The five-time champion was on the receiving end of 15 maximums from his opponent, who overcame the disappointment of letting slip an early lead to level the match at 3-3.

The back-and-forth nature of the match continued in the deciding set but in the sixth leg, Van Barneveld capitalised on four poor scores from the former Lakeside winner to seal a terrific win.

Van Barneveld will now play Michael van Gerwen after the world number one trounced Darren Webster in the final game on Sunday.

The 2014 champion dropped just one leg as he coasted to a 4-0 triumph, while he ended the match with an average of 109.23 - the fourth highest in the history of the tournament.

James Wade also progressed with a 4-0 win as he easily got the better of Wes Newton, with Jamie Caven awaiting the left-hander in the last 16.
