Raymond van Barneveld edges into last 16 at Grand Slam of Darts

Raymond van Barneveld edges past Larry Butler to earn his place in the last 16 of the Grand Slam of Darts.

Raymond van Barneveld has booked his place in the second round of the Grand Slam of Darts with a 5-3 victory against Larry Butler.

The 2012 champion was pushed by the veteran American, who missed a dart to make it 4-3, but after that chance was missed, Van Barneveld capitalised to earn a last-16 showdown with James Wade, who topped Group F after a 5-2 win against Keegan Brown.

Phil Taylor confirmed first place in Group H with a 5-2 triumph against Rowby-John Rodriguez, which ensured that Robbie Green finished in second spot with a 5-1 success against Martin Phillips.

Terry Jenkins lies in wait for Taylor after he missed darts to beat Robert Thornton, who eventually prevailed by a 5-4 scoreline.

Geert De Vos produced the performance of the night, however, as he averaged 113.86 in a 5-0 demolition of Johnny Clayton, with the total being the second highest ever recorded in the history of the tournament.

Gary Anderson will play Mark Webster in the second round after the pair beat Andy Boulton and Michel van der Horst respectively.

Results in full: Johnny Clayton 0-5 Geert De Vos, Robbie Green 5-1 Martin Phillips, Mark Webster 5-3 Michel van der Horst, Gary Anderson 5-1 Andy Boulton, Robert Thornton 5-4 Terry Jenkins, Phil Taylor 5-2 Rowby-John Rodriguez, James Wade 5-2 Keegan Brown, Raymond van Barneveld 5-3 Larry Butler
