Team GB's Sophie Thornhill, Helen Scott win gold in women's B 1,000m time trial

Great Britain's Sophie Thornhill and Helen Scott win gold in the women's B 1,000m time trial at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Great Britain's Sophie Thornhill and Helen Scott have broken the Paralympic record to win gold in the women's B 1,000m time trial.

Para-cyclist Thornhill and pilot Scott had claimed silver at the World Championship in March but they went one better in Rio de Janeiro as they finished 0.776 seconds ahead of their nearest rivals.

The Netherlands pairing of Larissa Klassen and Haleigh Dolman won silver, while Australia's Jessica Gallagher and Madison Janssen took the bronze medal.

Gold for Thornhill and Scott represents Great Britain's sixth gold of the Games, with Dame Sarah Storey bagging one of the team's medals on day one of the event.
