Paralympic cyclist Mark Colbourne has secured Great Britain's first medal of the Games by winning silver in the men's individual C1-2-3 1km time trial.
Colbourne and his compatriots Darren Kenny and Richard Waddon were welcomed with rapturous applause from the packed crowd at the velodrome but only one of them could make the podium, despite Kenny initially sitting in the gold-medal position following his ride.
Colbourne, who broke his back in 2009 in a hand-gliding accident, secured a time of 1:08.471 in his debut Paralympic Games, which pushed Kenny out of a bronze position following his time of 1:10.203.
China's Li Zhang Yu, who smashed the world record, secured China's second gold medal of the Games, while Germany's Tobias Graf snatched the bronze.
