Sir Bradley Wiggins to attempt world hour record in June

Sir Bradley Wiggins announces that he will attempt to break the world hour record at Lee Valley VeloPark in June.

Sir Bradley Wiggins has described the world hour record as the "holy grail for cyclists" ahead of his attempt in June.

The 2012 Tour de France winner will race at the Lee Valley VeloPark on June 7 to try to beat the distance recorded by Australian rider Rohan Dennis earlier this year.

The 34-year-old told Sky Sports News: "The hour record is a holy grail for cyclists.

"It's been fought over tooth and nail by the greatest names in our sport for over a hundred years and it's time for me to have a crack at it.

"I hope this is a challenge that inspires people: Why not get your bike out of the shed and see how far you can go in an hour?"

Fellow British cyclist Alex Dowsett will also attempt to break the record in the coming months after recovering from a broken collarbone.
