Sir Bradley Wiggins: 'I can reach 55km for hour record'

Sir Bradley Wiggins believes that he is capable of setting a new hour record of 55km when he makes his attempt in London on June 7.

Sir Bradley Wiggins believes that he can set a new distance for the hour record that would not be beaten for the next two decades.

Last weekend, Alex Dowsett became the latest new record holder when reaching 52.937km, but Wiggins has insisted that with the right preparation, he can put the record "out of reach".

The 35-year-old told The Times: "I don't just want to break it, I want to put it right up there, as far out of reach as I can.

"I've got 55km in my head and I believe that's realistic. I think if I do that, it will stand for 20 years."

The four-time Olympic gold medallist will attempt the record on June 7 at Lee Valley VeloPark.
