Lizzie Armitstead leads World Cup series after Philadelphia Cycling Classic win

British cyclist Lizzie Armitstead moves to the top of the UCI Women's World Cup Series standings with victory in the Philadelphia Cycling Classic.

Britain's Lizzie Armitstead has moved to the top of the standings in the UCI Women's World Cup series with victory in the Philadelphia Cycling Classic.

The Boels-Dolman rider, who is the defending World Cup champion, secured her second win of the season after sprinting from a large breakaway group in the 73.8-mile race.

Speaking to reporters after the race, the Commonwealth Games gold medallist admitted that it did not go to plan: "We really wanted to work for [teammate Evelyn Stevens], but it didn't quite work out on the climb. I had to think on instinct and go for the win. It wasn't exactly to plan, but at least one of us was on the top step of the podium."

The series continues in Germany in August.
