Ed Dawkins cruises past Peter Lewis en route to bronze

Ed Dawkins beats Peter Lewis to the bronze in the men's sprint cycling event to seal New Zealand's fourth medal at the Commonwealth Games.

New Zealand cyclist Ed Dawkins has claimed his country's fourth medal of the Commonwealth Games by beating Peter Lewis to the bronze in the men's sprint event.

The duo had the opportunity to salvage something after losing their respective semi-finals, and it was Dawkins who drew first blood by taking a one-nil lead in the opening race.

The 24-year-old, who claimed silver in Delhi four years ago, held his nerve and ensured that there was no need for a decider by beating his Australian counterpart to third place in comfortable fashion.
