Chris Hoy: "Incredible" ride from Australia

Chris Hoy says that Australia were fully deserving of their gold in the men's team pursuit as their performance was "incredible".

Former track cyclist Sir Chris Hoy has admitted that Australia's ride to beat England in the final of the team pursuit was "incredible" and they fully deserved gold.

Hoy said that when one of the Australian riders had to pull out he thought England might get back in it, but they were just too strong overall.

"When Australia were down to three men we thought England might be back in with a chance but that's an incredible performance from Australia," Hoy told BBC Sport.

"It's sent a message out certainly. England will be disappointed. It's not all about Bradley Wiggins, it's a team effort. It's a silver medal but still a medal nonetheless."

England were also beaten in the men's team sprint, with New Zealand taking gold there.
