Angelo Mathews suffers Achilles injury

Angelo Mathews confirms that he suffered an Achilles problem during Sri Lanka's 148-run win over Scotland.

Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews has revealed that he picked up an Achilles injury during today's Cricket World Cup clash against Scotland.

Having scored a 20-ball half-century, the all-rounder did not appear in the field on the advice of medical staff.

Speaking after his side's 148-run victory, Mathews said: "I've got a sore Achilles tendon so the physio and the management thought it was wise to stay out of the field.

"It was a precautionary thing. It was pretty sore and the physio thought just not to risk it and stay out of the field. We've got to assess it in the next couple of days."

Sri Lanka will play their quarter-final encounter, most likely against South Africa, on Wednesday.
