South Africa ease to series victory

India fall 214 runs short of their victory target as South Africa wrap up the ODI series between the two nations.

South Africa secured a 3-2 one-day international series victory over India courtesy of their 214-run win against the hosts in Mumbai this afternoon.

Batting first, the Proteas scored the third highest score ever (438-4) in the 50-over format of the game thanks to centuries from Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock and AB de Villiers.

It was the knock from De Villiers that particularly caught the eye, with his 119 runs coming off just 61 deliveries before he was caught by wicket-keeper MS Dhoni.

His contribution helped South Africa to score 400 or more runs for the fourth time in 2015, while India have never shipped so many in one match.

In reply, the Indians lost wickets at regular intervals which meant that they were never able to mount a serious challenge to the victory target that they had been set.

Ajinkya Rahane top-scored with 87 runs to his name, but the home side were eventually bowled out for 224 runs in the 36th over.

Twenty-year-old Kagiso Rabada was the pick of South Africa's bowlers, having ended his seven-over spell with figures of 4-41.
