Sydney Sixers get back to winning ways in the Big Bash League with a seven-run victory at home to Hobart Hurricanes.

Sydney Sixers have returned to winning ways in the Big Bash League with a seven-run victory at home to Hobart Hurricanes.

The hosts batted first and made 179-6 from their 20 overs before Hobart fell short with a total of 172-8.

Steve Smith top-scored for Sydney with a knock of 52, while Michael Lumb (23), Moises Henriques (31) and Jordan Silk (32) also impressed out in the middle.

Meanwhile, Ben Hilfenhaus was the pick of the Hobart bowlers as he finished with figures of 2-25.

Tim Paine (57), Ben Dunk (39) and Travis Birt (33) did their best to push Hobart towards their target when the visitors stepped up to the crease, but they were unable to get the runs needed for a second consecutive win.

Sydney bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon ended the match with two victims apiece, while Brett Lee, Stephen O'Keefe and Marcus North were also among the wickets.
