Melbourne Renegades breeze past Sydney Thunder for first Big Bash League win

James Pattinson stars on his return from injury as the Melbourne Renegades pick up their first Big Bash League win with victory over the Sydney Thunder.

The Melbourne Renegades picked up their first win of the Big Bash League with a convincing eight-wicket win over the Sydney Thunder at Docklands Stadium on Tuesday.

The home side put the Thunder into bat and it was a decision that proved fruitful as the returning James Pattinson bowled out Jacques Kallis (0), Michael Hussey (10) and Andrew McDonald (11) inside the first five overs.

Late flurries from Daniel Hughes (40 not out) and Chris Hartley (23) helped the Thunder post 114-6 from their 20 overs, a total that Melbourne easily chased down as they reached 118-2 with 37 balls to spare.

Aaron Finch led from the front with a quickfire 48 off 37 balls before Callum Ferguson (30 not out) and Andre Russell (16 not out) saw the hosts home.

Both sides now have 1-2 records for the tournament.
