A record contribution of 175 runs from Chris Gayle sees the Royal Challengers Bangalore thrash the Pune Warriors.

An unbeaten knock of 175 from Chris Gayle helped the Royal Challengers Bangalore defeat the Pune Warriors by 130 runs in the Indian Premier League this afternoon.

The West Indian all-rounder's contribution, which was achieved off just 66 deliveries, is a record in the Twenty20 format of the sport.

Tillakaratne Dilshan (33) and AB de Villiers (31 from eight balls) added to Gayle's score, which in turn saw the Challengers set a T20 record of 263-5 from their permitted overs.

The Warriors' reply stuttered from the start and they lost their opening four batsmen, including Englishman Luke Wright, for a combined total of 41 runs.

Aussie Steven Smith ended as their top scorer with 41 runs to his name, but it was Gayle who had the final say when he claimed two wickets in the final over as the Warriors fell well short of their victory target.
