Melbourne Stars edge past Sydney Sixers in Big Bash League

Melbourne Stars beat Sydney Sixers in a Super Over to make it two consecutive victories in the Big Bash League.

Melbourne Stars have made it two consecutive wins in the Big Bash League with a dramatic Super-Over victory at home to Sydney Sixers.

The Sixers made 150-6 from their 20 overs before the Stars fought back to level the match with 150-4. The home side then claimed the victory in the Super Over as their total of 19-0 trumped Sydney's 9-2.

Michael Lumb (80) and Jordan Silk (37 not out) scored the bulk of Sydney's runs, with the rest of their batting lineup failing to get beyond double figures.

John Hastings and Scott Boland took two wickets each for Melbourne, while Jackson Bird and James Faulkner also did some damage with the ball.

The hosts got off to a bad start at the crease when Luke Wright was dismissed in the first over for a golden duck by Ben Dwarshuis, but Cameron White (24) and Kevin Pietersen (54) helped to steady any nerves.

Glenn Maxwell's 23 from 15 balls helped to push Melbourne's score up before Faulkner (17) and Tom Triffitt (25) looked on course to see them over the line.

The pair needed three runs off the final ball to win, only for some quick fielding to limit them to two and force a Super Over. Dwarhuis ended with bowling figures of 2-31 during normal play for Sydney, who also had Brett Lee and Doug Bollinger take two wickets each.

The Stars had Faulkner to thank during the Super Over as he hit two sixes to give them a total of 19-0 before Sydney fell short with 9-2.
