Michael Klinger century earns Perth Scorchers victory

A century from Michael Klinger helps Perth Scorchers to record a 35-run victory over Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash.

Perth Scorchers have moved up to fifth place in the Big Bash League after they recorded a 35-run win over Melbourne Renegades.

Both teams had fallen to defeat in their opening fixture, but a century from Michael Klinger ensured that the Scorchers were always in control of the contest at the WACA.

Klinger hit seven fours and four sixes on the way to an unbeaten knock of 105 as he put on a 103-run opening stand with Marcus Harris, who made 53 off 39 balls.

Michael Carberry added 17 but it was Klinger who played the main role in helping the Scorchers set the Renegades a target of 193.

After Melbourne lost Aaron Finch and Matthew Wade with the score on just 32, a successful run chase always looked unlikely, and although Callum Ferguson and Andre Russell added 39 and 43 respectively, it wasn't enough to take their team near their opponent's total.

Russell departed off the final ball of the innings to leave the Renegades well adrift on 157-9 after their 20 overs to leave the visitors well off the pace in the eight-team table.
