Pakistan have been set a target of 297 runs to win their Asia Cup opener against Sri Lanka in Fatullah.

The Sri Lankans won the toss and put themselves into bat at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium before going on to make 296-6, thanks to a century from Lahiru Thirimanne.

Thirimanne was the top scorer for his side with 102, while Kumar Sangakkara (67) and Angelo Mathews (55 not out) also made significant contributions at the crease.

However, the team's remaining five batsmen all failed to make it past the 20-run mark.

Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi both took two wickets each for Pakistan, with Saeed Ajmal also getting in on the act.
