Ahmed Shehzad suffers skull fracture

Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad suffers "a minor fracture" of his skull after being hit on the head by the ball.

Pakistan have revealed that opener Ahmed Shehzad sustained "a minor fracture" of his skull during the ongoing Test match against New Zealand.

The 22-year-old suffered the injury when he was hit on the head by a short delivery bowled by Corey Anderson in the 116th over.

A subsequent CT scan has revealed the extent of the damage, which will be monitored over the next couple of days.

"The specialist surgeon has confirmed minor fracture and has advised 48 hours of close monitoring. In case the pain doesn't subside, then the surgeon may opt for decompression," said team manager Moin Khan.

As a result of the impact, the right-hander hit his own wicket, which meant that he was out for a career-high 176.
