Butt, Amir to appeal jail sentences
Pakistan duo Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir plan to appeal their individual jail terms after being sentenced at Southwark Crown Court today.

Former Pakistan cricket captain Salman Butt and teenage bowler Mohammad Amir will appeal the respective prison sentences dealt to them by Southwark Crown Court this morning.

The duo, along with fast-bowler Mohammad Asif and agent Mazhar Majeed, were jailed by Mr Justice Cook after being found guilty of cheating and corruption.

Butt's lawyer Paul Harris revealed outside of the London court that his client plans to appeal against the 30-month prison sentence imposed upon him.

"On behalf of Salman Butt I simply want to confirm that we will be appealing the sentence and launching grounds of appeal against it in the next 24 hours," said Harris.

The 19-year-old bowler, Amir, is also planning to appeal against his six-month jail term, which will be spent in a young offenders' institute.

The defendants were convicted for their involvement in deliberately bowling no-balls during a Test match against England at Lord's last summer.
