Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen is appointed as Delhi Daredevils captain for the Indian Premier League.

Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has been named captain of the Delhi Daredevils for the upcoming Indian Premier League campaign.

The 33-year-old, who was booted out of the England set-up by the ECB following their disastrous Ashes defeat in Australia, has been given the title by coach Gary Kirsten.

"I feel incredibly honoured to have been asked to captain the Delhi Daredevils in this year's IPL," NDTV Sports quotes Pietersen as saying.

"I am very much looking forward to working alongside Gary Kirsten. We have a fantastic squad with a good blend of youth and experience and a brilliant coaching set-up."

Wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has been appointed as Pietersen's deputy within the team.
