New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder makes himself unavailable for next month's matches against England after deciding the time is not right to make an international return.

New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder has made himself unavailable for the upcoming series against England.

Ryder is in fine domestic form but has resisted calls for an international return as he continues a personal 12-month plan of rehabilitation from a number of personal issues.

The 28-year-old pledged to take a year out from Black Caps duty in June and his agent Aaron Klee has confirmed that he needs more time away from the international scene.

He told ESPN: "Jesse has decided that he is not ready to return to the Blackcaps yet.

"He wants to stick to the plan he started last year, where he set out to achieve some personal goals and play a full season of domestic cricket. He made a decision in June last year to take 12 months out of international cricket to achieve some of his goals.

"It has only been seven months since he made that decision. While he has been back playing well and starting to rediscover his enjoyment of the game, he feels that he needs more time before committing fully to playing international cricket."

England begin their tour of New Zealand with a T20 match in Whangarei on Saturday, February 9.
