Kolkata Knight Riders edge past Kings XI Punjab

Kolkata Knight Riders move to the top of the Indian Premier League with a one-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab.

Kolkata Knight Riders have moved to the top of the Indian Premier League with a narrow one-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab this afternoon.

Kings XI won the toss and chose to bat first, with Murali Vijay getting off to a strong start, but he was back in the pavilion in the sixth over for 28.

Wriddhiman Saha and Glenn Maxwell kept the scores moving until Sunil Narine bowled his final over, removing both batsmen in the space of a couple of deliveries.

Andre Russell was hit for 21 runs in the 20th over, although he did catch Gurkeerat Singh off his own bowling to leave Kolkata needing 184 runs for victory.

Knight Riders made a strong start to their reply, adding 10 runs per over early on, but Robin Uthappa managed just 17 before being bowled.

Russell soon steadied the ship, hitting 51 before edging the ball to Saha with just three overs remaining, leaving the side needing 24 off the final 18 deliveries.

Kolkata still needed eight going into the final over to secure the win, and Anureet Singh claimed two wickets to give Kings XI hope, but Narine tied the scores off the penultimate delivery before a leg bye handed the Knight Riders victory.

The result moves Kolkata to the top of the standings, while keeping Kings XI bottom.
