Mahendra Dhoni says that India's spin bowlers were the difference-makers after their first Test win over England.

India captain Mahendra Dhoni has paid tribute to his side's spinners after their first Test win over England.

The hosts bowled out the visitors before lunch on day five and then went on to secure victory with the bat and win the match by nine wickets.

Dhoni believes that the spin bowlers were the difference-makers as India took a 1-0 series lead.

"The spinners bowled really well in the first innings, there was not much turn as the game went on so it was hard work for them," said Dhoni. "Even if you edge one, if it didn't go to the keeper it didn't carry to the slips.

"Cheteshwar Pujara has the potential to score big runs and he used all his experience in this game, it was fantastic batting by him.

"Pragyan Ojha looks to bowl quite tight, it was good to see him bowl in the right areas and he was supported well by the other bowlers."

The two sides meet in the second Test on Friday in Mumbai.
