Hampshire explore Isle of Wight fixture

Hampshire hold talks about playing a one-day game on the Isle of Wight.

Hampshire have confirmed that discussions are underway regarding the possibility of them playing a Royal London One-Day Cup fixture on the Isle of Wight.

The preferred fixture for the club would be the match against Lancashire, which is due to be played on Monday, August 17.

Explaining the reasoning behind the desire, a statement on the club's official website read: "A final decision is subject to logistical checks from Hampshire Cricket and the club hope to make a full statement on the matter in the near future.

"If the fixture were to go ahead, the club would see the match as a fitting tribute to Newclose founder Brian Gardener, who sadly passed away two months ago."

Ordinarily, Hampshire play their home matches at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
