England set New Zealand victory target of 303 in third one-day international

England ODI captain Eoin Morgan top scores with 71 as the hosts are bowled out for 302 in the third one-day international against New Zealand at Southampton.

England lost their last five wickets for just 14 runs as New Zealand restricted the hosts to 302 in the third one-day international at the Ageas Bowl this afternoon.

The hosts won the toss, choosing to bat in Southampton, and openers Jason Roy (9) and Alex Hales (23) got off to a solid start.

The pair fell within three deliveries as Hales edged Ben Wheeler's delivery to Tim Southee before Southee himself toppled Roy's stumps.

Joe Root (54) and Eoin Morgan (71) steadied the innings with the highest third-wicket partnership (105) seen in an international at the Ageas Bowl.

Root's dismissal at the halfway mark saw Ben Stokes come in and he bashed 68 off just 47 balls before being cleaned up by Wheeler.

Jos Buttler (13) and Sam Billings (34) added quick runs as the middle-order continued to flourish, but the tail could not add many more as England collapsed in the latter stages, missing out on 28 balls at the end.

Wheeler, on his first ODI appearance, finished with figures of 3-63 from his 10 overs.
