England will require 10 wickets to win on the final day of their Test with New Zealand after mounting a lead of 339 on day four.

The visitors began on 202-3 having dominated the third day, and they began well here, with Joe Root (54) and Dawid Malan (53) both achieving their half-centuries before being bowled out within three balls of each other.

England's lead was 311 after Ben Stokes was dismissed for 12, but Jonny Bairstow, who scored a century in the first innings, was crucial once more in providing 36 runs to push England on.

New Zealand took to the crease facing up against Stuart Broad and James Anderson in attack, but Thomas Latham and Jeet Raval stood firm to reach 42-0.

Umpires soon brought the players off the field due to bad light, but after a solid day's work, England will hope to tie the two-match series and earn their first Test win in 13 attempts on Tuesday.
