England and New Zealand draw the first Test of their three-match series as Three Lions successfully bat out the fifth day.

The first Test between England and New Zealand at Dunedin has ended in a draw, as play came to an early close on day five.

Nick Compton fell early in the day adding just 15 to his overnight score of 102 but fifties from Steven Finn and Jonathan Trott steadied the ship for England.

Neil Wagner got the wickets of both Trott and Kevin Pietersen for just 12, while Joe Root was run out for a duck as the Three Lions wobbled after tea.

However, Matt Prior and Ian Bell saw the tourists over the line as Kiwi captain Brendon McCullum agreed to end the game early, with both teams settling for a draw.

The second Test will begin on March 14 in Wellington.
