Chris Woakes to miss New Zealand Test series

Chris Woakes is ruled out for up to six weeks with a knee injury and is now expected to miss England's Test series with New Zealand next month.

England bowler Chris Woakes has been ruled out for up to six weeks after undergoing surgery on his knee.

The 26-year-old suffered the injury while recovering from a foot problem sustained at the World Cup and is now expected to miss the Test matches against New Zealand, which start on May 21 and May 29.

Woakes could also be sidelined for the five-match one-day series against the Black Caps should his rehab take the full six weeks.

"The ECB medical team confirms that England and Warwickshire bowler Chris Woakes underwent uncomplicated keyhole surgery on his left knee for a meniscal tear earlier today," read a statement from the ECB.

"The injury occurred while undergoing rehab for his foot injury. His rehab is likely to take a further four to six weeks."

Woakes has played just four Test matches for England before, three of which came in last summer's series win over India.
