Michael Vaughan highlights some key issues for Alastair Cook to solve at the start of his England captaincy.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has said that new Test captain Alastair Cook has several difficult issues to solve at the start of his tenure.

Vaughan thinks that the experience of Cook, who has played 83 Tests for England, will not be an issue, but there are concerns over results as well as the Kevin Pietersen saga.

Writing in his column for The Telegraph, Vaughan said: "[Cook] inherits a team that has lost six in 11 Tests, has to solve the Kevin Pietersen mess, needs to find a new opening batter, and address the fact that Graeme Swann has not been the bowler he was a year ago.

"In truth, there are issues around the side that were not there a year ago. However there is still a great set-up and system in place. With a couple of wins, those problems can be overcome. India is a very hard first tour, though."

Cook has a 47.84 batting average in his 83 Tests.
