England captain Andrew Strauss has revealed his delight after scoring an unbeaten century on day two of the first Test against the West Indies at Lord's.

Strauss, who had not made a ton in 18 months, ended the day on 121 not out as the hosts moved 16 runs ahead of the tourists on 259-3.

"It was a great feeling to get the 100. It was quite torturous getting there, the last 15, 20 runs but I suppose that's what makes it even more special when you do cross the line eventually," he told Sky Sports News.

"It's been a little while coming, I had to dig pretty deep and work hard and thankfully it was meant to be today.

"It was a great outpour of emotion because it has been a while and as pressure builds you really want to release it and thankfully I was able to do that today."

The skipper will start day three with Ian Bell at the crease as England look to build a big first-innings lead.
