Record-breaking England storm to series win over Pakistan

England take an unassailable 3-0 lead in their one-day series with Pakistan courtesy of a record-breaking 169-run victory at Trent Bridge.

England have taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in their one-day series with Pakistan courtesy of a 169-run victory in the third ODI at Trent Bridge this evening.

The hosts saw records tumble on their way to victory, with Alex Hales the star of the show with the bat as he hit 171 runs off 122 balls - the highest ODI score from an England batsman ever.

Joe Root (85), Jos Buttler (90*) and Eoin Morgan (57*) also weighed in as England stormed to a world-record total for an ODI, finishing their 50 overs on 444-3.

Pakistan were left with a daunting task, and it was not made any easier by Sami Aslam (8), Azhar Ali (13) and Babar Azam (9) failing to make significant scores.

Indeed, Sharjeel Khan (58) was the only top-order batsman to put up a fight, while Sarfraz Ahmed (38), Mohammad Nawaz (34) and Mohammad Amir (58) also contributed lower down the order.

The tourists never threatened to come close to England's total, though, and their chase was finally ended with more than seven overs remaining as Chris Woakes - the pick of the bowlers - claimed his fourth wicket to leave Pakistan 275 all out.
