Matt Prior: 'Alastair Cook is still the right man to lead England'

Matt Prior insists that Alastair Cook is still the right man to captain England following the defeat to Sri Lanka.

Matt Prior has insisted that Alastair Cook is still the right man to captain England following the Test series defeat to Sri Lanka.

Cook has been repeatedly targeted for his leadership skills during England's recent run of poor form but claims that he will not walk away from the job, and Prior believes the 29-year-old should not be replaced.

"We back Cooky all the way, he's a fantastic leader in the dressing room and he's a fantastic bloke," Prior told Sky Sports News.

"I think that what he said yesterday was absolutely right, he's a very proud man and he is very committed to doing the job and captaining England for as long as he's asked to.

"He's not going to give up and nor should he."

England's five-match Test series with India begins at Trent Bridge on July 9.
