ICC charges Ben Stokes for "offensive language"

Ben Stokes is reprimanded by the ICC for using offensive language during the opening day of England's third Test with India.

The ICC has charged England all-rounder Ben Stokes for using offensive language on the field of play during the first day of the third Test with India.

The 25-year-old was caught on camera engaging in a verbal altercation with India captain Virat Kohli as he was dismissed during the afternoon session in Mohali.

The governing body has issued Stokes with the reprimand and added one demerit point to his disciplinary record.

Stokes could have also been fined up to half of his match fee, but avoided the sanction after admitting to the charge.

The news capped a disappointing opening day for the tourists as they ended the opening day on 268-8.
