Jason Gillespie: 'English batsmen should follow Joe Root'

Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie says that England's batsmen should look to follow Joe Root's displays in the recent Ashes series.

Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie has told England's batsmen that they should look to emulate Joe Root's performances in the recent Ashes series.

The Yorkshireman averaged 57.50 with the bat and notched two centuries as England regained the urn from Australia with a 3-2 series win.

Gillespie has said that Root's confident approach at the crease bodes well for the future of the England team.

"Joe Root, named man of the series for England, epitomises this positive approach and is one of the reasons why I believe the future looks bright," Gillespie wrote in The Guardian.

"And just to stress this point again, being positive and aggressive is not about trying to smash every ball to the boundary; you can still show this intent when leaving.

"England's batting is a concern for some but for me the talent is there, they just need to look at how Rooty has gone about his business as a how-to guide."

England's next Test outing is a three-match series against Pakistan in October.
