Jason Gillespie: 'England should pick Adil Rashid against Pakistan'

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid should make his England debut against Pakistan this year, says Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie.

Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie has urged England to pick leg-spinner Adil Rashid for their upcoming tour to play Pakistan in the UAE.

The 27-year-old was tipped to become England's long-term spinner when he burst onto the scene at Yorkshire in 2006, but he is yet to make his Test debut, despite being closer to the main squad this summer.

However, with spin bowling expected to be vital in the UAE, Gillespie believes that now is the time to throw him into the mix.

He wrote in The Guardian: "Spin will play a big part and Adil Rashid, who has been taken on tours and followed the team around all summer, is at the stage where he needs to play for England to find out about him in Test cricket. And the sooner the better for me.

"Give him these three Tests – six innings with the ball on surfaces that will suit him – and they will have their answer."

The first Test begins on October 13.
