England have set Sri Lanka a target of 294 runs in their ICC Champions Trophy encounter at The Oval.

Jonathan Trott topscored with a knock of 76 from 87 balls, while Joe Root put in 68 as the hosts posted a total of 293-7 from their 50 overs.

England got off to a strong start with Alastair Cook and Ian Bell putting on 48 before the latter was caught out by Kusal Perera.

Cook and Trott took England to 131 before the former (59) was trapped lbw off the bowling of Rangana Herath.

England continued to score consistently, with Trott and Root both making half-centuries before the former was also trapped lbw by Herath.

However, Lasith Malinga took the wickets of Root and Eoin Morgan (13) in successive deliveries to spark a collapse.

Jos Buttler (0) was caught behind by Kumar Sangakkara off the bowling of Nuwan Kulasekara and then Tim Bresnan (4) was bowled by Shaminda Eranga.

However, Ravi Bopara (33) hit three sixes and two fours in the final over to help England finish their innings on 293-6.
