Sir Ian Botham: 'I would drop Jonathan Trott for Adam Lyth'

Sir Ian Botham reveals that he would drop Jonathan Trott in favour of Adam Lyth if he were in charge of the England team ahead of the second Test against the West Indies.

Sir Ian Botham believes that England should drop Jonathan Trott in favour of Adam Lyth for the second Test against the West Indies.

Trott made his return to Test cricket for the first time since the ill-fated Ashes tour of Australia as a stress-related illness put him out of contention for selection to the team.

However, his comeback was marred by a poor performance in his role as opener as he was dismissed for a duck and just four in his two innings, leading Botham to question his place in the side.

He told Sky Sports News: "I don't see the point in playing Trott at the moment, I'd look to give Adam Lyth a go.

"Lyth has consistently scored runs over the last few years so I'd say he deserves his chance."

The second Test begins in Grenada later today.
