Jonny Bairstow hopes to keep England place after Ashes triumph

Jonny Bairstow says that he hopes his Ashes performances have been good enough to secure a regular place in the England side.

Jonny Bairstow has claimed that he hopes he has done enough to seal a regular place in the England team following their Ashes triumph over Australia.

The Yorkshire batsman was not included in head coach Trevor Bayliss's initial lineup, but entered the fray for the third Test after replacing Gary Ballance.

"Hopefully this can secure my place - that is the aim and I will be giving it my all to do that and everyone wants to be a part of a side going from strength to strength and I'm no different," the Daily Star quotes Bairstow as saying.

"It feels more comfortable two years on. I've got more experience playing for Yorkshire and more experience in life in general."

The fifth and final Ashes Test will begin tomorrow at The Oval.
