Alastair Cook concedes that England were poor during their 127-run defeat to India.

England captain Alastair Cook has admitted that his side were deservedly beaten during today's one-day international against India in Kochi.

Chasing the home team's score of 285-6 from 50 overs, Cook's men eventually slumped 127 runs short of their target as India levelled up the five-match series at one win apiece.

Speaking after the match, Cook conceded that England were simply not good enough.

"That last 10-over spell of 100 runs really cost us. Up until then we were in the game," said Cook. "You can say we weren't quite at the races today for whatever reason.

"[The pitch] spun a little bit more but you can't use that as an excuse for why we didn't win the game. We got outskilled and outplayed today so it's tough.

"Credit to India, they put us under pressure - especially their batting after the first 10 overs. But it's important to remember it's 1-1 in the series so it's all to play for."

The third match will take place in Ranchi on Saturday morning.
