Alec Stewart warns England against drastic changes

Alec Stewart does not believe that wholesale changes are a good idea following the Ashes series defeat to Australia.

Former England captain Alec Stewart has urged England not to make drastic changes to their squad despite having lost the first three Ashes Test matches so far in the series.

The recent defeat in Perth handed the little urn back to Australia, but despite the next two Tests meaning little in the overall series, Stewart does not think "knee-jerk" action is helpful in the long-run.

"I read and hear a lot of opinions, but I take the view that you should never just make immediate knee-jerk reactions on the back of a defeat," Stewart told BBC Sport.

"There will be a lot of ex-professionals and the public wanting to get rid of this player and that, but opinions are easy when you are not the one making the actual decisions. Take a deep breath and think carefully what should be done."

There have been calls in the wake of the Perth Test for wicketkeeper Matt Prior to be replaced by Jonny Bairstow.
