Stuart Broad to be rested until start of The Ashes

Stuart Broad will be rested until the start of The Ashes in late November due to a heel problem.

Stuart Broad will not take part in any cricket until the start of The Ashes in Australia this November.

The England bowler had complained about pain in his heel while playing in the final summer Test match against the West Indies at Lord's in early September, and the 31-year-old has now been prescribed a complete break from cricket until the start of The Ashes.

Broad has a history of heel problems; the Nottinghamshire seamer was forced to fly home early from the 2012-13 tour of India due to a lacerated fat pad.

The news will also come as a blow to Nottinghamshire, as the second division club are on the cusp of gaining promotion back to the top flight of English cricket with two games left of the season.

England staff remain confident that Broad will be fit in time to play in the first Ashes Test in Brisbane on November 23.
